Here’s a Red Bellied Woodpecker for Day 10 of the Challenge.
Here’s a Carolina Wren for Day 9 of Stephanie Fizer-Coleman’s 20 Winter Birds Daily Drawing Challenge.
Here’s Day 8, a House Finch. This one came together quite quickly tonight.
Here’s a Blue Jay, drawn in Procreate. Didn’t have much time to spend on this one as I’m working on several different projects at the moment.
Here’s a Blue Mockingbird, really enjoyed painting this one, I feel like I’ve got into this Challenge now.
I’m reading the Lord of the Rings to Rudy (my 8 year old son) at the moment, which is great, it’s years since I last read it. Here’s an illustration of the Witch King of Angmar, one of the scariest characters in the book.
Day Four of Stephanie Fizer-Coleman’s 20 Winter Birds Daily Drawing Challenge, here’s a Titmouse drawn in Procreate. Tried a different approach today, wish I hadn’t! Not super happy with is one, but that’s OK. Tomorrow’s will be better.
I happened across this photo posted by my friend and author Sally Lloyd Jones last night…
I liked the only window and decided on the spur of the moment to draw it, so below is the Procreate illustration I came up with. I pretty much never try to copy a photo so this was quite a nice challenge for me.
Day Three of Stephanie Fizer-Coleman’s 20 Winter Birds Daily Drawing Challenge, here’s a Goldfinch Darwin in Procreate. Particularly appropriate as Alex saw one today. I tried for a more painterly approach in this one.
I’ve been working on a private commission for a client in Japan so I haven’t had much time for drawing today. Here’s a quick Procreate sketch based on the Eurythmics song “There Must Be An Angel” which for some reason was stuck in my head. Sometimes its good to start a drawing with no real idea of where it’s going or what it’s about.
Here’s tonights Procreate sketch. Drawn whilst re-watching Season 7 of Game of Thrones.
This was a project I worked on with Grey London ad agency as part of a campaign for Volvo Car UK. They were involved with the City Kids Surfing charity setup by Tom Franklin (all proceeds from the book go to this charity) and the book aims to highlight the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans.
This was the first time I had worked with an ad agency, and was also the first time I had used Procreate exclusively on a book project. I purchased a new iPad Pro part way through this and the transition was seamless.
Because of other work commitments I only ended up with 11 days to complete this book (which included a lot of very late nights), but I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
Here’s my latest Procreate illustration - Jonathan Strange, from Susanna Clarke’s masterpiece. It’s one of my favourite books ever.
Here’s my latest evening Procreate sketch, inspired by my brothers podcast recommendation, Potterless - Harry Potter, the boy who lived!

After drawing this I thought I’d try out Stefan Kunz’s amazing letter grids which I’d been meaning to do for months. I definitely need to work on my lettering but the grid worked really well. I really recommend them.
Here’s last nights Procreate illustration- a play on the Bear & The Maiden Fair from a Game of Thrones, reimagined as a Lady Brienne type, bear riding warrior.
Hello potential reader. I’ve decided to start a blog, seems like as good a time as any. I’d like to have a place to put work and things that isn’t on someone else’s platform. So here we go.
First up here’s a couple of recent iPad drawings made in Procreate
And another one...
It’s the last day of the Christmas holidays today so we went for a walk on The Rumps to try and stave off the dread of the approaching school morning....
Photos taken with my Leica Q, processed in Lightroom on the iPad Pro
