A house sparrow. We see a lot of these guys in our garden. Because I’m a rebel I painted him in some of the wrong colours 🤙 🤷🏼♂️ Drawn in Procreate of course.
A song thrush, due to being ill it’s taken me six days to do this one, trying to fit it in between other deadlines and sitting on the sofa feeling rotten.
I quite like it after all that though. Drawn in Procreate , very slowly.
I recently undertook a private commission for a lovely family in Japan. I don’t often have time to do these but this was a social 10th Anniversary present and I was happy to fit it into my schedule.
Masayoshi contacted me and asked if I would illustrate his family having a picnic with Jesus, in a similar style and feel to my illustrations for The Jesus Storybook Bible. After showing me which page he liked, I started with an initial sketch, using Masayoshi’s photos for reference of his family.
After some discussion I then proceeded to colour the illustration and after a few alterations and tweaks we came up with the finished illustration below.
Yesterday I received a lovely photo from the family showing the print framed in their house, Masayoshi has given me permission to share it here. He and his family are very happy with it.
If you would like to commission me you can find some prices on my shop at the link below and you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Here’s a Junco, I’d never heard of this bird before but I like it. This one has a bit more artistic license than some but I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.
Here’s a Downy Woodpecker for Day 11
Here’s a Red Bellied Woodpecker for Day 10 of the Challenge.
Here’s a Carolina Wren for Day 9 of Stephanie Fizer-Coleman’s 20 Winter Birds Daily Drawing Challenge.
Here’s Day 8, a House Finch. This one came together quite quickly tonight.
Here’s a Blue Jay, drawn in Procreate. Didn’t have much time to spend on this one as I’m working on several different projects at the moment.
Here’s a Blue Mockingbird, really enjoyed painting this one, I feel like I’ve got into this Challenge now.
I’m reading the Lord of the Rings to Rudy (my 8 year old son) at the moment, which is great, it’s years since I last read it. Here’s an illustration of the Witch King of Angmar, one of the scariest characters in the book.
Here’s my latest 20 Winter Birds illustration, a Nuthatch.
Day Four of Stephanie Fizer-Coleman’s 20 Winter Birds Daily Drawing Challenge, here’s a Titmouse drawn in Procreate. Tried a different approach today, wish I hadn’t! Not super happy with is one, but that’s OK. Tomorrow’s will be better.
I happened across this photo posted by my friend and author Sally Lloyd Jones last night…
I liked the only window and decided on the spur of the moment to draw it, so below is the Procreate illustration I came up with. I pretty much never try to copy a photo so this was quite a nice challenge for me.
Day Three of Stephanie Fizer-Coleman’s 20 Winter Birds Daily Drawing Challenge, here’s a Goldfinch Darwin in Procreate. Particularly appropriate as Alex saw one today. I tried for a more painterly approach in this one.
Here’s a book cover I worked on back in 2016 for an Italian translation of Yoko Tawada’s award winning book, Memoirs of a Polar Bear. I haven’t seen a an actual copy of the book yet so I’m not sure which option they went with but here are the files I was sent.
I’ve been working on a private commission for a client in Japan so I haven’t had much time for drawing today. Here’s a quick Procreate sketch based on the Eurythmics song “There Must Be An Angel” which for some reason was stuck in my head. Sometimes its good to start a drawing with no real idea of where it’s going or what it’s about.
